castle rock, CO location. Was told I had to be there by 3pm or all well.

Rental agreement said 4pm. I was flying into Denver was nervous about delays. Asked if anyone could stay late for pick and was told no. This was a Saturday and they weren't open again till Monday.

I'd be out of luck for 2 nights of my rental. They were completely unwilling to even fathom helping me if we were late. Rv had dents, scratches and tears on all sides of it. Was told outside had to be cleaned prior to drop off and "there's a car wash up the road".

Never heard of that before. I know inside needed to be clean but outside.

Come on. Horrible customer service and won't rent from again.

DON"T RENT FROM Cruise Am

Less than 1 star DO NOT RENT FROM CRUISE AMERICA WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

CEO of this "family biz" should be ashamed. Guess since they are ubiquitous they don't care. One could expect 2 or 3 minor things, it is after all a rental but 21 problems? Don't bother taking pictures they won't go through firewall.

Inconsistent support from 800# call and they tell you all issues/compensation must be resolved at rental location. Go to rental location, the say all issues are resolved at corp. Cannot reach by phone and when submitting complaint you get a form letter apology and gift card for $100 off next rental. SERIOUSLY?

Rude and condescending manager (Alum Rock San Jose)

Some of these issues were critical and others just added to frustration and annoyance throughout the trip listed here in order of discovery as we hit the road

1. Parking Break Release Hard to locate. This should have been pointed out at pick up as it was not clearly marked and also not in the useless Owner's Manual

2. CD Problem wrecked new CD because they did not eject CD left in player by previous renter

3. NOISY RATTLE SHAKING Started on our way and were shocked at how noisy it was. Everything rattled making conversation, hearing GPS directions and hearing music nearly impossible. Of course we did not expect smooth and totally quite ride but THIS was beyond big vehicle noise and shakiness.

4. No latches on drawers and cupboards - When turning drawers and cupboards fly open. Have to get up and close constantly. Unsafe and unacceptable. Cheap, bare bones design at high prices

5. AC Vent drivers side broken from him. Should have been pointed out at inspection.

6. Passenger side floor heated up - Couple of hours into trip, floor heated up so much it was too hot to have feet on floor from passenger seat. (from motor?)

7. Stove hood filthy

8. Rear bed roof vent no crank - so no air /ventilation in read

9. No chairs with table - told we as 2

10. Front cab roof vent - screen kept falling off (broken fasteners)

11. All windows difficult to open and close and no screens on some.

12. Screen door plastic guard - kept falling off and had to constantly be replaced

13. Bad electrical cord - cord had exposed wires

14. Bent and broken blind above sink

15. Dirty curtains falling apart and some without fasteners

16. Storage unit side door difficult to lock and did not lock

17. Propane Gauge faulty and always in ON position - this was pointed out at time of pick up and we were told it was safe and not to worry. One location refused to fill it up because gauge indicated it was full

18. Trickle water Flow - no usable shower or "bath sink" minor but annoying only "kitchen" sink faucet had adequate water flow

19. Table would not stay in upright position

20. MPG OVERSTATED estimate on 10-11 mpg missed significantly. Avg trip 4.5 to 5

YOUR DEPOSIT DOESNT MEAN YOU WILL GET YOUR RV

We rented from them, paid deposit, got confirmation letter with detailed instructions on where and when to pick up. I didnt see the one that came the following day saying to call day before to schedule it. So, the place was closed during the indicated pickup time and we couldnt take our trip. Still waiting for refund, but hey, its a deposit and we didnt take the RV. This is just wrong behavior. They took my money and told me when and where. The place should make an effort to find out why we didnt call, do they really think I paid the deposit so they could have a little extra for the holidays?

No cab AC, woman at shop could careless

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! I had hoped that cruise america here in Buffalo would be okay since the bad reviews I read were only from out west, boy was I wrong. When we first got there the girl was being very over dramatic about issue they were having with another RV, she assured us that the one we were taking was in perfect working order, even though it had been brought back late and she didn't have a lot of time to go over it. Fast forward we get home to pack it and the cab AC is not working. I called customer service and they say "I am so sorry, just use the rooftop AC with the generator and we will credit you back. Call us at 8 am and we can see about getting it fixed" (it was 6pm and the shops were closed. So, we turn on the generator and the rooftop AC, finish packing and start out on the road. About 5 hours into the trip we notice everything in the freezer is thawing. I call customer service again and they say "Oh the sensor must have fallen, just tie the sensor up to the top inside the fridge and it will be okay, in the meantime we will give you a $25 credit to go buy ice and replace the food that was melted". We pulled over for the night, in the morning all of our popsicles were melted and the milk was getting warm, the fridge was at about 50 degrees, so we put a bag of ice in there to keep it cool. The freezer was at 40 degrees and all that was in there was a waste. We were four hours from our destination and had reservations so we pressed on hoping that we could salvage our trip. I called CS at 8 am and they said the closest shop was a few hours away in the wrong direction and that it would take a couple of hours to fix, instead we could just use the generator while driving to run the rooftop AC. So we do that. We get to Assategue Island, absolutely wonderful! We had two great days because the RV was just parked. We left a day early because our food had thawed, so we were running out. I did not want to be on an island with three kids and no food. So we pack up to head home. At this point it was 91 degrees and the rooftop ac was working but barely making it up to the cab part, and with the heat coming off of the engine we were dripping sweat. We pulled over and waited for it to get dark so we could drive without as much heat. Customer service told me to call the place we picked the RV up from to let them know that we were dropping it off a day early and tell them the issues it was having. 1- cab ac did not work at all, 2- fridge and freezer were not working, 3- vent over bed was not sealed properly and was leaking water from the rooftop ac, 4- none of the cigarette lighter plugs were working (no charging our phones), 5- the compartment that had the hose was locked and the key we had did not fit it, so when we dumped out the tank we had to borrow someones hose. The girl at the pick up place was very defensive about the issues. We told we would be there in the morning and work it out. We finally got home, cleaned out the RV and took it up to the drop off location. From the minute we pulled in the girls was very pissy (I think she is also one of the "mechanics"). She was once again over dramatic and snappy. Even though customer service gave us permission to use the generator she hassled us about it. She eventually gave us a credit for it, $58, but said there was nothing about the $25 credit for the food melting. She could have cared less that there was no AC in the cab and acted like we were ***, even though while we were waiting for her the other mechanic told us that they had problems with the AC before we took it!!!! She in nor way offered a discount for anything that had gone on and when I told her if she didn't want to give us the credit we were told we would get or a credit for the things that went on, then that was fine I would take it up with corporate. She had been getting pretty loud and I had no desire to stand there arguing with her. (During all of this a sales person came in to see if they wanted some supplies and boy did she bit that sales woman's head off, so she just left). She printed out the closing receipt and said this is what it is, I signed it and told her to have a good weekend and left. I called corporate and apparently you can only speak with Customer relations via email, it will take them 5-7 days to respond, so I will be waiting a while. Bottom line,==King Automotive on Seneca in Elma was the location we picked up and dropped off at; they did not properly check the vehicle before sending it out and also knew it had an AC issue but sent it out anyway, the girl in charge of handling customers is extremely over dramatic, and very defensive. I had hoped they were better than the other reviews I read but they are not.

Don't do it !!!

First we back it into our driveway and notice it leans to the right. Just thought it was from loading some chairs and a few boxes of oranges and paid no attention to it. We drove to our destination 115 mi away. Park and since it's hot try to turn on the air but the generator doesn't work. Called the 800 number and they told us to run a half hour and then try. We had been driving for 2 1/2 hrs. Da! Finally we are told to take the cover off the generator and go buy a new one and install it or we could drive to their service center to get it fixed . They don't send out people to help. We finally got someone to get it started from the generator but not from inside. Very loud and had to turn it off and next day it wouldn't turn over at all . So the trip was very uncomfortably warm. Got home and backed into the driveway and noticed still leaning down on the right. My husband got down on the ground and noticed the rear inside tire was flat. We had just driven over the Pacheco Pass with a flat tire two times. We are lucky to be alive . It pained me to wipe it down and sweep it to turn it back in clean. I wanted to take an ax to it !!! Cruise America will never get my business again. Oh I might add we are in our 70 s and not capable of doing our repairs

CruiseAmerica Fremont (San Francisco) - AVOID

We picked up our C19 from Fremont (San Fransisco). We only went with CruiseAmerica as we were let down by another company due to no fault of their own less than two weeks before departure. Faced with the choice of cancelling Yosemite etc I took what I could. CA were the only company I could find with availability, and now we know why they have availability!

CruiseAmerica in Fremont are woefully understaffed and pickup took several hours. The van had done 123K miles and looked old and tatty, and in retrospect we should have made a fuss but we're British and were keen to be off. The equipment level was very minimal - small kitchen kit, no levellers, etc etc.

It was only when we got underway that the faults started to become apparent.

The first night we went to a full hook-up site. Husband checked the black & grey water valves and removed the drain end-cap to connect the hose. Sewage started pouring out all our Husband's feet. The black water valve leaked in a major way when "closed". It was obvious the black tank had not been flushed, and the last people had not used any chemicals either. Unfortunately this meant we could not do sewer hookup anywhere, and when we stayed at remote sites and needed to use our own facilities, we were then committed to emptying the tanks on a public dump with a concrete apron so we could wash down after. This was seriously Not Funny.

Then various engine warning lights came on, from the constant "Tire pressure" light to the "Change Engine Oil" message. When we phoned in we were told not to worry about those, they're normal apparently. Not in my car they're not.

The third major fault was that the large side window had a broken lock, and could very easily be opened from the outside. Completely insecure. Every time we left the RV we had to take everything of any value with us. Especially worrying in public car parks, as I could just imagine what our insurance company would say if we had to make a claim for theft.

We phoned in the faults, and when they did come back they suggested we called in at Bakersfield during the week (it was the weekend). Well that may be fine and dandy if you have weeks and weeks of vacation and don't mind losing a day here and there, but we had come a long way and each day is very precious, not to mention well-timetabled, with hard-to-get sites booked.

Other faults included broken curtain fixings so the curtains would not stay up making the RV very public, bathroom shower/tap that wouldn't work, aircon so noisy as to be unusable, a window that would not lock open so self-closed the whole time, tank indicator panel that didn't work, broken locker hinges, etc etc.

On return the manager listened to our complaints with the air of someone who listens to a lot of complaints and gave us a small discount in compensation, two days discount from a 12 day booking. Unfortunately the final price includes so many add-ons that two days rental amounts to very little of the total bill.

I am seriously not impressed with CruiseAmerica (Fremont), neither their service nor service recovery. I'm told it's a franchise and other branches may be better. I would not use them again and I would not recommend them.

No AC, No Communication, No Help

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We rented our RV for the Bonnaroo Festival in TN this year - we rented the RV in PA for the 12 ride to TN for the convenience of being able to drive everyone together and having the feel of a home on the road - but the main selling point was the available AC in the RV since the temps in TN were at 95 degrees everyday. We had to use the generator for the AC because their were no hookups for power - we knew this going in.

1/2 there we put the generator then the AC - runs 20 minutes and generator powers out. We put it on again, 20-30 minutes it goes out again - this lasted for 3 hours before I called Customer Service - their Customer Service is merely an answering service that has to pass your phone number and complaint to another party. Left our number to find out why the generator is dropping out since the only items running on the generator is the AC and the Microwave. No response call to our service center call.

24 hours later of having to get up and re-start the generator, we call again - they tell us that they tried to call us twice the day before - never happened, never got a call. Was told that our RV was too close to the RV next to us and was over heating. We had 20 feet from our RV to the next RV which was up in the air, so their excuse held no water. There were at least 30 of the same RV's from Cruise America exactly like ours.

I took pictures of each and everyone of them that were much closer to their neighbor but had NO problems with their generator. Keep in mind that the most important plus to the RV rental that cost us over $2000 for a week plus gas was the AC. 4 days later, no call backs, no concern to our situation - in fact, the AC from the front cab that we got from running the main engine actually cooled the RV better then the roof unit. The person we returned the RV to passed the buck to the Customer Service line saying that it wasn't his problem - they will nickel and dime you on the rental return as well - fees for all kinds of things.

Retailer was not open to any type of discount for the issue - in short, we closed our credit card on the way back before we returned the item and put in a claim with our credit card company since they did not hold up their end of the transaction because of the lack of communication and a fault AC unit which we couldn't even get a call back to even ask or get some direction. Next time, just rent a larger car and there will be less problems and less cost for the rental.

I feel for you! I had similar issues with this horrible company, I filed an official complain with Better Business Bureau, and now have my attorney involed and ready to SUE THEM if they do not refund me my ENTIRE Trip and expenses to get home!

I reccommend you go on YELP, BBB Website, and other review sites to get their attention. You time and money is valuable and these people need to stop ruining vacations that people save a very long time for!

Thanks for responding - I see that there's so many problems with this company & not even a single attempt to resolve an issue. I wish I had known as these complaints before we went through with the reservation.

We used 2 credit cards for payment and currently one card has already investigated & refunded their amount of the dispute. The bigger portion of the money went on another card - this company has not been so easy to resolve the problem with. I have thought about the option of calling my lawyer if we don't get our dispute resolved.

I agree that there was more of our vacation that was ruined besides the cost of the RV - they kept $500 deposit, tickets to our event for everyone, over 1400 miles in charges, gas, tolls etc ... Thanks for the advice and keep us updated on your situation as well - thanks!

Cruise America ...more like sweat, shake and hope engine doesnt blow up across america! My experience with this company began with the rental location in Naperville, Illinois giving me a dirty RV. They said, we didnt have time fo clean it". So ther waz dirty, gritty floors, cup rings on all table and counter tops and some kind on food sludge in the sink trap and yet I took the RV because we were on a tight schedule for Bonnarroo. This vehicle must not have good shocks because every bump in the road made the entire RV shook and made horrible noises as if all we were going to show up with at our destination was with a shell of what once was a RV. Ran the air conditioning one nivht then the next day when i attempted to start the generator. ....it was no longer working. Generator would crank but wouldnt turn over. I called the assistance line.....4 times before i finally spoke to someone who read from the same book I was reading from trying fo froubleshoot. Thsn my favorite part came....the customer assistance person says, "well we cant do anything about it since you are at a music festival"! What the heck!!! So for the next 2 days we SUFFERED in a tin can with the outside temp over 90 degrees. Lord knows how hot the tin can got inside!! To add insult to injury, on the trip home, the engine light came on!! When we finally returned this piece of sh%/! Equipment back and told the owners of the location, they wanted to argue with we on the "dirty* condition of the RV. I told them that is how I received it so i brought it back in the exact condition i received it in. Then i got the run around. Oncerning the generator. ...the mechanic/owner said "i worked on it before your trip and had it running two hours and it ran great ". Well, i said to him, did t seem to help me when it wouldnt work at all on my trip. I then told them about the engine light and the response i got was "well thats just an emmision light". As i told him then and tellin you know.....i dont give a ***, this vehicle should be in top running condition prior to renting it out. Thats why i didnt buy someone elses issue....i rented on so i wouldnt have to worry about issues such as these. After all this...they still continued to charge me for dumping tank and propane...to the tune of 200! My suggestion, DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE! In fact if you can AVOID CRUISE AMERICA all together.

We rented an rv to go to hersey. When i rented i asked if they were in good condition and they said yes, pretty new. We arrived waited an hr to get rv and leave.

The rv was banged up looked like early 2000s drove like a tank down the road.

The inside was dirty and not in good condition. We get close to where we were going bought food. Arrived at destinatio and set up. Went to get food out of fridge and it was warm.

The fridge wasnt working. The air conditioner leaked, the drains didnt drain, the sewer hose wasnt long enough so we had to buy another. I called customer service was told someone would be there to fix fridge, monday. Wed. I was still calling. Then was told we would need to go 30 miles in a place c we knew nothing about with 5 kids.

Nop, they reimbursed gor 2 days. 2 days! The vacation we saved for for a year was completely ruined and we got 2 days reimbursed.

I wanted to cry. We havent been on vacation years because we take care of children so this was our families first vacation and it was a disaster.

I would not recommend them. Theyve never returned my calls or complaints online. Horrible way to treat people

Cruise America - Rv Rental Review from Pleasant Valley, New York

I rented an Rv at a new location in Newburgh NY.... I have rented RVS for years at Poughkeepsie with Robin and unfortunately she could not accommodate my rental and booked my rental through Newburgh NY....

Worst experience ever they were rude did not want to take anytime to show me the RV it was dirty and filthy. I have never been treated by the Poughkeepsie location like this Robins daughter shows me the RV does the walk through and makes sure everything works while I'm there. I have never been so angry and had a terrible time. They gave me an RV with no water in it and the sewer was never dumped.

The man showing me said it was empty but the reader board didn't work. I asked how would I know if it needed to be dumped...he said you will smell it, really???? Oh my gosh I can't even with this guy. The propane was full which was a plus but I said I will fill up the propane before returning the man explained I was already charged for it so I wouldn't have to do that.

Well I set out with a full tank of prone and a full septic. Now during my travels I smell this odor oh my gosh... now mind you it was me by myself so I called the dealer and counter person. I spoke to said she was too busy call roadside which I did but no call back until I found a camp ground and dumped it myself....

now traveling back lights go out and call once again to not get a call back from the dealer. I came in to the office to return the RV I was called a liar and I never rented an RV this location should be shut down and let me tell you I have contacted better business Bureau about this MAYGARS Service and I hope Cruise America shuts them down immediately... if these are the people that represent Cruise America I give this location a few more rentals and they will be shut down.

Also they have a Budget Car and Truck Rentals too and the disrespectful tone the women had with the customers was unheard of. Please Cruise America shut this location down don't let these people ruin anymore family vacations for other families...

Thank you

Generator did not work and water leaks

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We rented an RV from Buffalo to Orlando for The last week of December. We rented the RV so we could stop and sleep long the with our three children ages 11,7, and 4.

We were charged for winterazation and told to fill up the water. Upon getting home we filled the water tank. Water started leaking throughout the cabin from a broken hose at the toilet. We called the dealer but they didn't have a hose to replace it and we're closing up for the day. They told us to buy a new hose and they'd reimburse us. We had no time for that since we were on a fixed schedule. We thought the RV would be ready. Instead we turned off the water and had no use of the water throughout the trip.

3 hours later we were in Pittsburgh and went to start the generator. The generator did not start. We pulled over, called Cruise America and ran through all their troubleshooting options. Nothing worked. The customer service agent said we could buy a battery that Cruise America would reimburse us for or we could stop at an agency on the way to fix it. It was 9 o'clock on a Friday night. We had no time to take out of our trip to search for car batteries or drive off route to find a dealer. Again we had no use of the generator for the week. When we pulled over to sleep it was so cold that we were unable to sleep and just kept driving through the night.

Throughout the process we called many times. Sometimes the customer service agent would say another agent would call back and we would receive no call back. Other times the customer service agent told us to call the dealer only have the dealer tell us To call Cruise America.

We asked if we would be reimbursed. Cruise America told us the dealer would make that decision when we returned the RV a week later. That would be a week of using a vehicle that had none of the uses we rented it for to then find out if we get reimbursement.

After two days we decided to just return the RV, rent a car and hotel room, and fly home. Cruise America said we would be charged $600 to return an RV that never worked.

I will never rent from Cruise America. Luckily I was able to stop one friend from renting from them. They have no customer service. They completely ruined what should have been a fun family trip.

We've done this before with El Monte RV. EM rode well, had about 12k miles and after a good cleaning (to our standards), was a great ride. Due to location needed we went Cruise Am. this time. We're just back from a 28 day No. Cal trip in a 25' CA. Had multiple smaller rig issues all due to old age. *** in sewer line (yuk, I bought new); an AC that sounded like an F15; no levelers provided (for yours either-ask); shower handles that didn't work (I bought and fixed) and a few more. Worst for us was the rough, bouncy, tilting long rides which my wife won't go thru again. Also, an "emergency" number that doesn't answer (four tries is BS boyz). Everything has a useful life span and a 2013 50k RV with minimal maintenance (and 50k springs with a very heavy top box?) may be a bit old for making folks happy. I reco you do your homework directly with supply location IN ADVANCE OF YOUR TRIP. I'd ask for (? demand) something under 25k miles. If they can't tell you your vehicle's estimated mileage, you're rolling the dice for all the stuff on this blog. When we do it again, we'll consider Road Bear or EM (though both have more limited locations). They appear to be better maintained, overall younger vehicles. Probably an example of high volume, low cost (CA) vs. lower volume, higher cost quality (RB/EM) maybe? I think the age of the vehicle you get will likely impact your vacation's happiness more than you'd ever consider (as proven by my required apres-driving naps and the abundance of gripes on this blog!!!!). PS: for newbies to RV'ing. Don't let these problems dissuade you. GO DO IT. RVing IS A BLAST and a great way to see your country.

It would be too expensive to give everyone the rented vehicle with less then 25k miles...you do realize people have them for 30 days to a time and drive them almost constantly, so that would mean like rent it out to 3 to 4 people and buy new...that's just not cost effective. Heck, buy your on.

DO NOT RENT FROM CRUISE AMERICA IN BUFFALO

We rented a 30ft and were told it was in great shape, so wrong. By the time we got home the AC in the cab part wasn't working. We called customer service and they told us everything was closed, just to use the generator for the rooftop AC and they will credit us for it, then we should call them in the morning. So we went on our way. The girl at the rental place turned the fridge on for us and said it would all be cold by the time we get home, so while we were packing we put our stuff in the fridge and freezer. When we stopped for the night I went to take the popsicles out and they were all melted, the fridge was warm too. I called CS again and they said it was just the sensor that had fallen down, they had me tie it up and said they were giving me a $25 credit for the popsicles and the ice we had to buy to keep the fridge and freezer cold. They assured me that now that the sensor was tied up it would be okay. The next day we reached our destination and the stuff in the freezer was thawing, the stuff in the fridge was getting warm. So we kept packing bags of ice around the milk and in the freezer to try to save some of it. We were pretty far from anywhere they could send us to fix the AC or the fridge. By day two the milk warm warm and had to be thrown out, along with other things in the fridge and we had to cook the burgers and sausage that was in the freezer because it had thawed. We made the best of it but had to come back a day early because of this. Also, the water sputtered a lot, even with the pump on, the vent over the back bed was not sealed properly and leaked when it rained and the keys for the water hose would not work so we had to borrow from another camper, and the cigarette plugs didn't work. The way back was torture. It was 91 degrees out and the rooftop AC did just enough to cool the back, it barely reached the cab and the heat from the engine was coming up through the floor, we had to pull over and wait until it was night before we could continue. I had called the drop off location and told them about the problems and what CS had told me and the girl was pretty short with me so I said we will just deal with this when we get there in the morning. The next morning we got there and she stormed past us and started taking the info off the RV. While she was doing that the mechanic told us that they knew there were problems with the AC. I can't believe they sent it out knowing that!! When we went in to close out, the girl was really pissy. She gave us a huge hassle about using the generator for 16 hours, she wanted to charge us even though CS said they would credit it. She finally gave in on that, but would give us no other refund for anything that went wrong. As far as sweating to death while we were driving, she just said "yeah I get that your mad" and just stared at us. Please do not rent from these people, they don't check their equipment thoroughly and don't care when stuff is broken. Just save yourself the hassle. This was a Cruise America through King Automotive on Seneca in Elmira, NY, they were our pickup and drop off location.

Very poor, inefficient, disfunctional service received by Customer Service for Maintenance Assistance. Not a single return call received as informed on the phone. Made several phone calls to report problems with RV condition right after pickup RV for 1 day. As writing the complaint, we got flat tire . As usual no one calls back and left us strand on th road with no hope. Very disappointed with the company and the founder of company who seems to have passion with this business. Quality service is going down hill.
